Empowering Kosovo's Youth through Inclusive Schools and Societies
In today’s rapidly changing world, the education system faces increasing challenges beyond academic instruction. Discrimination, intolerance and social disconnection continue to affect students’ well-being and performance in schools. As societal pressures grow, there is a rising need for educational environments that foster inclusivity, respect and emotional resilience. Empowering teachers plays a crucial role here.
Teachers are at the heart of the learning process, directly shaping students’ experiences. When equipped with the right tools and methodologies, educators can transform classrooms into spaces of growth, tolerance and mutual respect. The MoviEQ Methodology Training, delivered by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to 14 teachers from 10 targeted municipalities of the YESS project, including Kamenicë/Kamenica, Gjilan/Gnjilane, Obiliq/Obilić, Prizren and Lipjan/Lipjane from 19 to 23 August. This professional development program is designed to cultivate learning environments promoting tolerance, respect, and empathy. By empowering teachers, the initiative aims to enhance teaching quality, strengthen vocational support, and foster deeper connections between students and teachers. Ultimately, students will benefit from a more supportive and empathetic educational experience.
The training is part of a YESS Project—Youth Empowered through Inclusive Schools and Societies. The project is a collaborative effort between IOM and UNICEF, funded by the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund, aiming to enhance social cohesion, tolerance, and diversity in Kosovo communities. The two organizations will be working directly with schools to help bring marginalized youth into formal education and support student-led initiatives that inspire and uplift.
The key outcomes by December 2025 include enhanced collaboration mechanisms among youth-led initiatives and local stakeholders, promoting meaningful youth participation and ownership in community development and peacebuilding initiatives.
