Omar's Return Home through IOM's Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration Programme

The AVRR Programme is a humanitarian initiative that aims to facilitate the safe and dignified return of migrants who wish to voluntarily go back to their countries of origin. The Programme also provides reintegration assistance to help the returnees resettle and rebuild their lives in their communities.

Omar is a young man from Guinea who embarked on a perilous journey to Europe when he was only nine years old, hoping to find a better life. After spending 13 years in different countries, facing various difficulties and hardships, Omar decided to return to his homeland with the help of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and its Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration Programme. Omar is one of the many beneficiaries of this Programme, which offers migrants the opportunity to start a new chapter in their lives with dignity and hope.

Omar's life in various countries for more than ten years was full of difficulties and opportunities. He grew up in a foreign place, where he learned a new language, made friends, and adjusted to a different culture.

Omar said: "IOM's team and the Temporary Reception Center for Migrants were very helpful. They answered all my questions and helped me choose the best option for my future."

Omar's story shows the positive impact of IOM's Programme of Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration. It shows the importance of giving migrants the support they need to return to their homes with dignity and hope.

This activity is organized within the framework of the “Addressing Mixed Migration Flows in the Western Balkans (WB)” funded by Norwegian Government and implemented by IOM.
