Improving Health and Well-being of Migrants Through Recreational Activities

Improving Health and Well-being of Migrants Through Recreational Activities
April, 2021 - Sport and physical recreational activities can be a powerful tool for relief, health improvement and human connection.

Making good use of sunny days, in the past two weeks, IOM’s Mobile Team began with organizing conditioning and sports activities held outdoors for migrants residing at the immigration detention centre for foreigners, led by a professional fitness trainer.

The sports activities with migrants are funded by the EU Service for Foreign Policy Instruments #EUForeignPolicy within the project Addressing COVID-19 Challenges within the Migrant and Refugee Response in the Western Balkans.

High spirits and healthy competition among the lively migrants marked the activity, all keen to join and dive into exercises and games with enthusiasm and laughs.

The specialized instructor from Pristina’s Tempo training centre was very creative in making sure all participants enjoyed every minute of the recreational exercises, football, basketball, tug of war, and other games.

The sports activities were an instant hit with the migrants, and the Mobile Team will continue to hold physical activity sessions, in hope of improving their overall physical and mental well-being.
