IOM Kosovo Launches Sixth Phase of EU-Return and Reintegration Programme
On April 1, 2024, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Kosovo, in collaboration with the Ministry for Communities and Returns (MCR) and the EU Office in Kosovo, launched the sixth phase of the EU-Return and Reintegration Programme (RRK VI). This initiative aims to support displaced persons, including internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees returning to Kosovo, by providing comprehensive assistance to facilitate their sustainable reintegration.
The RRK VI Programme focuses on ensuring the successful return and reintegration of displaced persons and families. It provides essential support such as the construction of new homes and the distribution of harmonized assistance packages containing food, non-food items, firewood, and furniture. Additionally, the Programme offers income generation packages to help returnees achieve economic stability.
Beyond individual assistance, the EU-Return and Reintegration Programme aims to foster a sustainable and tolerant multi-ethnic society in Kosovo. This is achieved by strengthening the capacities of central and local authorities to effectively manage the reintegration process. The Programme's design is based on best practices from previous phases and aligns with the MCR Regulation (GRK) - NO. 01/2018 and the Strategy for the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Communities and Their Members 2023 – 2027.
In its current phase, RRK VI aims to construct 32 houses for displaced beneficiaries across various municipalities in Kosovo. Initial construction has commenced, focusing on assisting 7 displaced families, comprising approximately 35 individuals, from the municipalities of Dragash/Dragaš and Lipjan/Ljipjane. These families are either returning to their places of origin or integrating into their current locations.
Since November 11, 2017, the RRK Programme has achieved significant milestones, including the construction of 377 houses for returning non-majority communities and the delivery of harmonized assistance packages. The Programme has also implemented 20 community and infrastructure projects such as multi-ethnic and multi-cultural events, improvements to roads and riverbeds, installation of public lighting, and construction of youth centers aimed at improving living conditions for both receiving and returning communities.
The RRK VI Programme's achievements are a result of the support and cooperation of various stakeholders. IOM Kosovo extends sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Communities and Returns, the EU Office in Kosovo, local authorities, and the communities involved.
The RRK VI Programme aims to contribute significantly to the sustainable return and reintegration of displaced persons in Kosovo, fostering social cohesion and peace in the region.
