IOM Kosovo Movie Night in Pristina
IOM Kosovo took part in this year's Global Migration Film Festival with a special Movie Night in Pristina on Saturday, 15 December at Kino Armata, screening movies from the GMFF 2018 Official Selection as well as locally selected movies.
For the first time ever, a film screening of the IOM Global Migration Film Festival was hosted in Kosovo. A one-night screening which included a selection of local films as well as international selection. This first edition in Kosovo screened long and short films such as the documentaries “I am Rohingya”, “Zvicra” by young Kosovan director Fisnik Maxhuni as well as fictional movies like “Kiem Holijanda”, just to name a few. A specific highlight was the short film “Home” by Daniel Mulloy, a 2017 BAFTA-winner for best short film and a nominee for European Film Academy Award. The selected films covered different aspects of migration, from forced displacement to migrants in transition up to the questions of integration and identity when living in the diaspora. Through them, personal stories showed a human aspect of migration, beyond the veil of prejudice, and depersonalized numbers.
Since 2016, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) organizes The Global Migration Film Festival (GMFF) around the world, featuring films and documentaries that capture the promise and challenges of migration, and the unique contributions that migrants make to their new communities. This year’s festival had screenings in more than 100 countries, including the IOM Kosovo’s screening in Kosovo. The aim of the GMFF is to use films as educational tools that influence perceptions of and attitudes towards migrants as well as being an innovative creative avenue for normalizing discussions of migration through storytelling.
Films were screened from 18:00 – 23:00 in Kino Armata without charge for admission. For full film list and screening time, please check the event of the movie and IOM’s FB page: https://www.facebook.com/events/260810004564972/
