IOM Kosovo together with IOM Germany Assisted German Migrant's Return Home
In a rare and reversed case of return migration, IOM Kosovo in collaboration with IOM Germany have successfully assisted the return of a German migrant who was residing in Kosovo, to his home in Germany.
After spending a few months in Kosovo, the German citizen was referred to the IOM AVRR Programme by the Kosovo migration officials. The 48-year-old was escorted while boarding a flight at Pristina International Airport early Saturday morning, which took him to Hamburg, Germany.
IOM supports all migrants who decide to return to their homeland and provides assistance under the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) program. The Programme helps returnees in preparing for their travel, return and reintegration.
In this particular case, IOM Kosovo has collaborated closely with IOM Germany and the Embassy of Germany in Pristina, in making the return of the migrant smooth and successful. Prior to traveling back home, the migrant received pre-departure counselling and financial cash assistance and was escorted by a medical staff on his journey. IOM Germany will follow up with counselling on reintegration support schemes.
“I am grateful for the assistance I received here as a foreigner, and I wish the people here good health for many years to come,” the migrant stated before boarding the plane to his home in Germany.
