Strengthening data collection and analysis mechanism in Kosovo

The IOM Mobile Team in Kosovo continue conducting Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) exercises on a monthly basis in the most frequented locations in the urban settlements and borderlands with the aim of reaching out to as many migrants as possible, including those on the move.

With sound coordination and support of local authorities and effective collaboration with key informants, our mobile teams are enhancing support to migrants, who are getting more and more valuable information about their rights, access to basic services, need-based referrals, emergency packages with basic needs food and non-food items, as well as interpretation assistance throughout the registration process.

The IOM Kosovo delivered five hundred (500) emergency backpacks containing food and non-food emergency items for migrants met at registration points, borderlands, hostels, and bus/train stations. By making use of the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) method, the IOM Kosovo is strengthening the data collection and analysis mechanism, thus consolidating knowledge of migratory trends, which is instrumental in providing tailored and evidence-based assistance to populations on the move and supporting policy-makers in responding to the needs of vulnerable migrants.

With the support of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the IOM is supporting protection-sensitive assistance to migrants in transit, by increasing the accommodation and reception capacities of existing reception facilities, supporting the functioning of these facilities, and providing migrants, refugees and asylum seekers with access to adequate WASH, food and non-food items.
