Visit to IOM Beneficiary in Gjakova/Djakovica – 16 Days of Activism Global Campaign
November 25, 2020 - To launch the 16 Days of Activism Global Campaign today in Kosovo, a series of meetings and activities were organized in Gjakova/Djakovica, with EU Ambassador to Kosovo, Tomáš Szunyog, Mayor of Gjakova Ardian Gjini, Minister of Youth Sports and Culture Vlora Dumoshi , UN Development Coordinator Ulrika Richardson, UN Women Head of Office Vlora Nushi, UNDP resident Representative Maria Suokko and IOM Chief of Mission Anna Rostocka.
One of these activities was a visit to IOM’s beneficiary, 20-year old Besarta Pajaziti, a young tailor from the Egyptian community who operates a store in the Old Bazaar of Gjakova/Djakovica.
With a grant she received from the EU Community Stabilization Programe III, implemented by IOM, Besarta managed to expand her existing business which her father established in 2012 and increase the quality and quantity of her clothes production, using various types of fabrics.
The support consisted of an industrial sewing equipment (machines) for clothes production, and an iron silter. The business is developing well, and Besarta works with her father and has employed an additional worker. She has managed to establish business linkages with boutiques in the vicinity of her workshop and provides tailoring services for them.
During the COVID19 Pandemic she also began producing masks. Marking the launch of the Campaign, today she provided 150 orange masks for vulnerable/marginalized groups in the municipality.
