Youth Summer Camp gathers young people in the wilderness
IOM Kosovo in partnership with the Klubi Alpin Prishtina, recently concluded a Youth Summer Camp with youth from Kodra e Trimave and Southern Mitrovica. For 2 days, they enjoyed a variety of activities ranging from hiking, orienting, climing and were trained on basic skills and tips on surviving in the nature, rescue and first aid. In the evening they gathered around the fire and shared different experiences and stories on climing and camping.
For all of them it was the first camping experience, that allowed them to gain leadership skills as well as increase their understanding and responsibility taking in their own groups and community life. They very much enjoyed being in the nature and built strong links during team building and group exercises. Within the camp students developed a sense of independence as they tried new adventures, gained self-confidence as they learn new social skills, gained resiliency and they were unplugged from the wrold of technology. Furthermore, our partner for the activity, Mr. Nazim Hasanramaj from Klubi Alpin Prishtina, who is also Kosovo`s first Albanian male to ascend Mt. Everest, shared his inspiring journey, motivation and passion for the nature and outdoors activities.
The activity was organized within IOM`s regional project Community-based approach to support youth in targeted municipalities in Kosovo, funded by the British Embassy in Sarajevo and implemented by IOM, which strives to promote greater civic engagement that would deepen youth`s sense of community and increase their opportunities to engage in a variety of activities.
