Gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls have always been part of IOM’s work. Our programs create environments that help women succeed economically and socially, ensuring women’s leadership, diversity and inclusion. The week of International Women’s Day continues to be marked with support and assistance to women, where through the support of IOM’s Community Stabilization Program (CSP) funded by the European Union, four women from diverse communities were able to jump-start their businesses. They have become proud owners of beauty salons and are now officially independent entrepreneurs. Working with the modern beautification tools and technology, will create opportunities for these businesses to hire additional workers and provide on-the-job training to other young women from their respective municipalities.

“My dream of starting my own business became true during women’s month. I would like to encourage all women to follow their passion and become independent entrepreneurs!” ~ Binake Kra
“Never underestimate the power of a young woman. As a young woman myself and soon to be mother, I have managed to start my own business. I will encourage all young women that I meet, to never give up on what they want to achieve.” ~ Ajete Berisha, Gjakov
“For men and women to be equal, women also need opportunities to become economically independent. This is the way that a society can develop and prosper.” ~ Salmira Usmeni, Dragash/Dragas municipality
“When you work hard and love your job and respect your clients, you will always succeed. I encourage all women to know that if I can do it, anyone can do it!” ~ Flurije Zeka, Ferizaj/Urosevac municipality
