Pristina – Marking International Migrants Day on December 18th, this year the United Nations Kosovo Team launched the local United Nations Migration Network (UNMN) to ensure coordinated UN Kosovo Team-wide support to the Kosovo authorities in reaching the objectives of Global Compact for Migration (GCM) and implementing relevant policies.
International Migrants Day is the occasion when we reaffirm that migration is a driving force for progress and development not just for those on the move, but also for sending and destination countries.
Accordingly, the UN Network on Migration was established by the UN Secretary-General to ensure coordinated UN system-wide support to States in implementing the GCM. The launch of the UNMN in Kosovo will mobilize coordinated and collaborative actions on migration and engage with external partners.
“IOM rejoices in the establishment of the local UN Migration Network, an initiative that will surely improve cooperation of UN Agencies and contribute to the efforts of the Kosovo authorities in implementing migration policies in line with international standards. The collaboration and coordination of all actors would play a crucial role in making migration work for all,” stated Anna Rostocka, IOM’s Chief of Mission in Kosovo.
The UN Network on Migration in Kosovo consists of those members of the UN Kosovo Team who wish to be a part of it and for whom migration is of relevance to their mandate. UNMN Kosovo will also act as a source of ideas, tools, reliable data and information, analysis, and policy guidance on migration issues, and contribute to wider initiatives broadening partnerships on migration.
